Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Meeting Against defending champion Dodgers
Springer contributed to the Astros securing the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first World Series following the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing by two runs, Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh inning, propelling the sole Canadian team in the majors to a four games to three triumph in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the upcoming championship.
"It's incredible for our team, the city, our country," Springer stated, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now connected for twenty-three playoff homers, placing him third in history behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another person in the world that I want up in that situation besides him with his post-season brilliance," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the one club never to appear in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it hurts" after his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their performance this season.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we ended up on the losing end of this one," he continued.
Toronto won the championship on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on this Friday.
