The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
