As Michel Illouz gradually progressed through the masses beneath the tall evergreens and date palms at the cemetery in Ra'anana, a urban center located approximately 20 kilometers north of Tel Aviv, he showed appreciation to countless visitors as feasible.

Guy Illouz, a performer and recording specialist, had been shot in the back at the Nova music festival during the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. "And here I am this morning, heading toward Abu Kabir forensic institute to confirm your identity and bid farewell. They removed the white sheet, and the primary view I saw was that smile of yours, that hopeful nature, that calm demeanor and nobility that so characterized you."

"I touched you, tried to detect your scent, caressed every bone in your body. I saw you, I was alone with you, and yes, I felt with complete conviction that it was you. Yes, I know, Guy-shuk, that you've returned to us. You've returned to your relatives' care, to all your companions, and to the numerous individuals whose feelings your narrative impacted."

Parental Resilience

During the early part of the memorial, Illouz had concentrated completely on consoling his junior family members. He tenderly caressed the strands of his daughters, embraced his boy, kissed his neck and gathered his emotions for them. But then his voice broke.

"I will long for so much traveling with you through this land, sensing your presence, enjoying your artistic creations, sitting in the hills and igniting the flame to prepare the beverage the way only you knew how – 'Papa, do you see the coffee bubbles?
