Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this endearing family navigate their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to help comedy break out of its long-running sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
